Need help with trunk lock cover.

The little piece that covers the lock assembly to protect the lock from weather either fell off or was vandalized. The dealer said I had to replace the whole assembly. They didn't seem interested in the job, so I ordered the part from gmparts.com. When it arrived, it didn't have the cover. Looking at the parts fiche, I can't seem to find the piece. Anybody know what I need to order?

Could be rong but it looks like you need a ESCUTCHEON, R/Cmpt lid lock cyl grp 12.249, pn 20702117. Might write Jim Finn.

It is very difficult to locate small oddball parts like this. You will have to remove the tail lamp housing and bumper cover to gain access to the screw that holds the lock cylinder. The cylinder can be taken to a locksmith where they can replace the black shutter assembly.

Mine fell off several years ago. The local Dealer parts man gave me several chrome rings and I managed to make one fit. Think the original was black.

Re: Need help with trunk lock cover.

Mine fell apart some time ago. I went to my Buick dealer and he sold me the shutter several small springs and the black cap that snaps on over it all to hold it together. I didn't get parts numbers and I don't think he bothered to look it up. A word of caution, remove the lock to install the parts as those little springs tend to let fly.
