How much should I ask for it?

I have a 91 Reatta coupe, red with tan leather. I bought the car about a month ago because I had wanted a Reatta for a long time but I bought another project over the weekend (somethign my son wants to work on with me so it gets priority) so something has to go. The car has 207K miles but uses no oil, doesn't smoke, has good power, etc. I have no idea if engine has every been apart but it doesn't run like a 207K mile car but I guess the 3800 Buick engines are pretty good engines if well maintained. The previous owner gave me a stack of receipt about 3 inches thick of all the things that had been done in the past several years so it has been properly maintained. The paint is in very good condition with the exception of a few rock chips on the hood. The interior is in very good condition - normal wear on leather but no holes, tears, etc., headliner great, carpets and mats real nice, center console in good condition, etc. Everything works with the exception of the frequency readout on the radio - radio plays, etc you just have no lights. One technician told me it was the wrong radio but who knows - I do have an aftermarket cassette deck that works fine but it isn't in the car but goes with it. The transmission was totally rebuilt at a cost of over $1700 at 204K miles, brake system totally redone ($1300 at 201K), A/C system totally overhauled a couple of years back - will freeze you out. Just replaced the coil pack two weeks ago. No cracks or chips in the windshield, has one remote and the remote works, tires are in great shape, wheels look nice, no strange noises, etc. Body colored belt line trim, tinted windows (only non stock thing on car). No sunroof and standard power seats. Has a clean carfax so I am assuming no accidents, etc. Runs and drives great and I enjoy driving it but I just don't have the room to store it and I hate for it to sit outside plus I can use the money for my other project. Wife says enough is enough - sell something

So, my question is - what is a realistic price to ask for the car?

    Thanks

Re: How much should I ask for it?

These questions are always hard, but I would say that $4k-4500 would be reasonable for both you and the buyer. Miles are high, yes, but it sounds like a very well maintained car underneath.

It is a '91 after all, plus its got a tranny rebuild.

Re: How much should I ask for it?

Thanks - that is actually higher than I was going to ask so glad I asked the question. If I can get my money out of it (around $3800) I would probably take it. It is a nice looking car and as I said, I have real mixed emotions about selling it (and that isn't a sales pitch - I really do enjoy driving the car) but between the storage problem, needing extra money to work on this project and my wife (who is usually supportive but apparently I have pushed her to the limits ) I need to let the car go. I drove it to work today and was thinking how good it drives. They really are fun cars.

    Thanks

Where is the car located, and would you feel safe driving it to the West Coast?

    Thanks,

Re: How much should I ask for it?

The car is in Fayetteville, TN. So we are a good ways apart. Having only owned it a month I can't say about how it would do for a long trip. If I had owned it 6 months I would have a better indication. I have driven it many miles in that short time and it has never given me any indication of a problem but I don't know about a 2000 mile trip. I do know that when I go out in it I have no doubt I will make it back but then again, a 100 mile trip is certainly different than a 2000 mile trip. I think everything other than the motor has pretty much been rebuilt that would give you a problem and the motor seems very strong but it is a 1991 model with 207xxx miles.

Re: How much should I ask for it?

    Alf,

Are you in the market for another Reatta? Most likely I will be selling my 89 in the next few weeks and I am in Los Angeles. My wife wants a car with Air Bags, CD changer, blah, blah, blah. So I am currently looking into leasing a car and if that works out, space dictates that the Reatta must go to a new loving home.

If you are interested, I will send you the fully filled out sales form we use here on the forum and if you like what you read, we can arrange a visit!
