Help - Wiper Delay

My 'delayed' wiper unit won't work unless I hold the button pressed in. Is it fixable or do I need to replace? If replace where can I get one?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Help - Wiper Delay

I would try taking it out and cleaning it with wd40 like Howard does with the light pod. Otherwise Jim should have one.

Electrical contact cleaner may also work. I suspect the little contacts on the slider do not contact the circuit board unless you push them closer. Sometimes they can be bent to regain contact.

Re: Help - Wiper Delay

The switch pod can be opened and the slider cleaned/adjusted. First make a note as to which buttons go where. This is important because you should open the unit with the buttons facing you and lift the shell away from the switch body. This is because there are a lot of parts inside that could move from their assigned positions and might be a pain to figure out later. Now pull the plastic finger cap off the slider shaft. Then, looking at the back side of the switch, the outer shell with the buttons can be removed by gently prying around the edge to release the plastic side tabs. Don't try to complety free one side at once. Also, there is no need to bend the little metal tabs. They allow access to the circuit board and all the various sliding levers and guides that interact with different switch settings. Just slowly work your way around the entire joint until all the little tabs are out of their holes. Then you can lift the shell off and see how the slider operates. It has been a long time since I worked on mine, so I can't tell you exactly what you'll find in there. Just be very careful to note just how things are arranged so you can get it right going back together. You should be able to clearly see if there is a problem with the slider, as it will still be on it's runners and engaged with the contact strip. I would suggest a gentle cleaning of the slider fingers and contact strip with a swab wetted with electrical contact cleaner.
This same exercise is useful for the HeadLight Pod also.
