Of late the Driver's side headlight was becoming slower raising then it's counterpart. A few days ago it didn't raise at all "Wink" Rolling it up by hand felt, shall we say not right, some resistance as the knob was turned and I could see the output arm had some play.
Yesterday after reading over Tom Jenkins www.reatta.net guidelines I went at the disassembly.
No signifigant problems encountered getting things apart, with the gritty feel to the manual roll-up I was expecting to find disintigrated bushings/ or and stripped gears.
What I found was that one of the field magnets in the motor housing had come loose and was dragging against the armature. 13 years of corrosion I guess had done it's deed! I cleaned out the surface rust in the casing, reglued the magnet and during reassembly applied some metalic epoxy to the bell-crank mount to the gear shaft.
Last night the first time I turned the Headlights on it only raised about 1/2". I rolled it up by hand, turned the headlight off and it stayed up? Rolled it down and turned the headlights on again. This time it raised promptly and closed properly on command. Cycled several more times through the evening so perhaps the brushes just had to re-seat?
Sense of accomplishment! Yes, so far!
