Lubricate with powdered graphite. Avoid oils as lubricant as this attracts dust and causes gunk build up. If you wash your car drive it to shake the water from the inner lock components. Also, operate the lock mechanism a few times after to ensure everything is working. Finally, closing the door a few times will expell any excess water.

    Re: Frozen Door Locks?

Thank You, But my car has not been washed for a long time.
it happened a couple nights ago when the temp went to 0 (zero)
The next morning i went to start the car an the handle button was really stiff, hard to push in, when unlocking with key it very slow an stiff like.
Car started But could not shut the door, would not latch, even slamming a few times.
Had to wait close to an hour with heater running, then it closed.
I want to avoid this happening again in the future.

An my heater blows only warm air, Not hot

Is the engine coming up to the proper temperature? I'm thinking you might have a thermostat that's stuck open

    Re: Frozen Door Locks?

What year/model? I know some of them had a diagnostic system very similar to that of the 90-91 Reatta and the engine temperature could be pulled from it.

    Re: Frozen Door Locks?

F14 I was commenting or complimenting on the background in the shots of the drop top or convertible....."habitat" is area or the surroundings in which you live....very very attractive. And I was asking if the young ladies were not interested in your convertible...or in a 'round 'bout way why you are selling it.

I went back and read the 1st post again...I admit is was vauge...sorry

    Re: Frozen Door Locks?

No worries Nic. That's actually my front yard

We're selling because we bought this Reatta to sell. Using my knowledge from you guys and experience from 2 other Reattas, we were able to get this one in good to go shape. Didn't need anything serious at all and mostly just a really good cleaning and some touch up. Great car.

    Re: Frozen Door Locks?

Back on topic...a spraying oil would work fine. WD40 would work but I prefer like PB blaster or Liquid Wrench cuz WD40 actually isn't that great of a lubricant (glorified kerosene). I don't think dust is a problem because there's not much dust inside a door, and gumming up isn't a problem since these oils are also good solvents.
