I think this means that I have a current E063 code which is a small egr problem.
1. How do I fix it?
2. Can I drive the car until I do?
3. If I drive the car, what is the worst case?
As always...thanks for your help. I've got until the morning.

Re: E063 code - service engine soon
If the engine runs normally otherwise, it should not hurt anything to drive it. If one or more of the pintle valves are stuck open, you will probably get a rough idle. If stuck closed, at worst it may raise the combustion temperature somewhat making it possibly more prone to knock. Observe the performance carefully and get it fixed as soon as you can. The simplest thing to try is unplug and plug the harness connection at the EGR a couple of times, it could be a poor connection, although not likely as it runs a full twelve volts. More likely the valve needs to be cleaned or possibly replaced. You should be able to see the three valves, although it may be easier with the black plastic cover removed. The flat metal ring below the spings should be laying flat against the lower housing although the actual pintle valve is below the visible portion. You can also try cycling the valve manually using twelve volts to snap each one open and closed. The pins are very small and requires a small alligator clip or probe to make the connection. To do a more thorough examination you will need to remove the actuator and valve assembly. It is possible there is some buildup of carbon in one or more posts. One other thing; the EGR is operated by the ECM through the quad drivers, so it is also possible to have a problem with the ECM itself or harness.

Re: E063 code - service engine soon
AutoZone has 2. One is 36.99 and the other is 170.00. I'm trying the 36.99 one.

Re: E063 code - service engine soon
If the $36.99 works you have got the deal of a Reatta's lifetime.

Re: E063 code - service engine soon
Robert,
Not even close.
I needed the 170.00 one. It does appear to be easier than the thermostat. Right smack out in the open. Will report back in a couple of hours or days or weeks

Re: E063 code - service engine soon
Now time to play!!
You have to open it up and check out the 3 pintels and their chambers before you chuck it out.
Well done...you just saved +$100

Re: E063 code - service engine soon
You mean I can't save it for future use. The Mrs. says I don't throw nothin' away. Even got an old set of wiper blades off a 1970 pickup truck, just in case I ever need some rubber stripping to glue to something for something. Just never know.
Seriously...I'm way happy that this is 2 jobs now that I completed with the SUPPORT of this forum. Its not that I'm mechanically incompetent...more like lazy (unless its polishing and waxing). But with labor prices as they are, and the age of this daily driver, either I have to make alot more money or do some of the work myself.
Thanks for the help.

400hp vacumn for removing gasket scrapings from plenum channels
You'd best take a look in the collection chamber of that 400hp vacuum, contents of the Cat. Converter has probably been pulled back through!

Re: E063 code - service engine soon
Was wondering if anyone actually read my task list. Thought that might evoke images of Tool Time and Tim Allen, my hero. Mostly because of the tool time girl. And he did work on a couple of pretty neat cars.
Greg, I'm working on a 72 resolution image of your motor that I think will remove some of the pixelation upon reduction. Look for it in your email over the next few days.
