    determining insurance value

There is a guy I know who lives here on the Ranch with a 90 coupe. He got rearended last weekend and needs several references for where to send the insurance company for checking the true value of his car. Was hit by a pickup doing around forty mph. He was stopped. The insurance company is trying to low ball him. Trunk is smashed in pretty good and rear quarters are buckled ahead of the wheel well and the panels between the rear window and the door are also buckled a bit. He hasn't decided yet if he wants to fix it or not but he does need to get a fair settlement from the insurance company. Anyone who can steer him in the right direction, just post it here and I will pass the info on. He doesn't do computers and the internet.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Re: determining insurance value

He can purchase a CPI guide from Hemmings.com by Black Book(Thanks to Manik for the heads up)for around $15.00

CPI stands for "Cars of Particular Interest" and is generally a high - collector value book.

Come to think of it, someone posted a different book several weeks ago that was or had higher values, but I forget the poster's name and the book or magazine name.

Depending on the miles and condition, it sounds as if (more than likely) the vehicle is totaled. If this is the case, he or someone who can navigate the Net should Google "inherent Diminished Value", research and ascertain if the car is in collector condition deserving this type of action, and if he wants to pursue the action....requires a lot of work, possible attorney intervention, and Fighting the insurance for deserving collector value...can be worth thousands however.
