CV Axel Caution
Just had the need to acquire a passengers side CV half shaft for an 89 on the QT.
None in stock at any of my usual FLAPS.
Quickest one I could get in was thru Car Quest. Ordered the one for the 89 with ABS their PN RDS 410265 reman at $66 plus a $ 79 core charge.
Came in the next day as promised, but when I went to install it wouldn't fit. Turns out the inner spline shaft was too large in diameter. (1.25" vs 1.10" needed)
I suspect that they sent one for a 91 with the beefier transmission.
Otherwise was identical. Car Quest brand name on box.
Car Quest could not confirm whether it was a wrong item in the right box, or if the numbers in their system were crossed.
Ended up ordering one in thru Advanced. GPS brand new not reman at $70 and with no core charge. Bulked up the order to get free shipping and a 40% discount.
Took 3 days to arrive as quoted. Made in China. Fit as it was supposed to.
Just a heads up to anyone looking for a half shaft. Measure the inner splined shaft to make sure you are getting one that fits before you go to the effort of trying to install it.
Just had a similar issue with a steering rack for a Honda too.
It's exasperating when you have to wait days for a part to show up and it doesn't fit.
As with everything else, YMMV. As these parts are getting harder to find in stock locally, I expect more problems with getting the proper part ordered and delivered to crop up.
