Cruise Position Sensor
I've poked around here for a while, but I'm still not sure what to do. Got code B671, which I've learned is the cc position sensor. So, where is it, where do I get a new one, and is that likely to fix my cc? The Cruise light comes on when I push the button, but no cc. I'm about ready to just take it to the dealer, say "fix it", and bend over. I travel 130 miles/day on the interstate, and really need my cc. (BTW, it's an '88).
Thanks for any help,
Keith

Re: Cruise Position Sensor
CC unit is just behind/below the air cleaner. Has a cable going to the throttle on one end. Same one used by many many GM cars of the period, I just picked up a few at the local U-Pull-It.

Re: Cruise Position Sensor
Have any of the ones you picked up been tested, and if so, are you selling them?

Re: Cruise Position Sensor
No and no, I have three vehicles that use the same module so when the U-Pullit had a 2 for1 sale I picked up a couple.
Often it just needs cleaning.

Re: Cruise Position Sensor
Okay, I'll try cleaning it. Thanks.

This is it:

Note: when visiting the recycling center, make sure the vacuum hose attachment nipples are not cracked.

Re: Cruise Position Sensor
[the] sensor if they call it that is on the brake pedal. When you hit the brake it turns off the cc....If it is out of position, [touching the brake arm] the system cannot engage. A simple thing to move it away so it is not touching. Similar to a brake switch. IF THAT IS THE PROBLEM? Ken

Re: Cruise Position Sensor
I would check all the hoses and the clean the module as Padgett suggested. I had the same problem. All my small diameter hoses were rotted, but about the same time the module went bad. I took one of a later model LaSabre. If I remember right it was $10.00

Re: Cruise Position Sensor
Mission accomplished; I now have cruise control. Got a unit off of a newer GM that works great. Very simple repair. Thanks for all the help, guys. I picked up a couple of extra cc units if anybody needs one (not tested though).

Re: Cruise Position Sensor
Keith just wondering did you try cleaning the connection first? Thanks for the update.

Re: Cruise Position Sensor
No, I didn't clean it. When I took the back cover off to look at the electrical coils, etc., there was a lot of corrosion and pieces fell out. Didn't seem worth fooling with when a replacement was less than $15 at the junkyard.
