    Brake Actuator? Leak

I saw what appeared to be transmission fluid on my garage floor. Mechanic said the "governor" on my transmission was leaking, but he did not have the expertise to work on the transmission on this vehicle. Went to another shop and the mechanic said it was not the governor at all, but the Actuator on my brake system was leaking and draining onto tranmission and the garage floor. My question is this: Is there such an animal as a Brake actuator on the teves brake system? I can't seem to find any reference to this part.

He must be referring to the accumulator. Reatta Owners Journal - Brake Accumulator Description

It sounds like someone overfilled the reservoir by not following the instructions for filling the master cylinder reservoir but you could have a leak. Reatta Owners Journal - Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling Instructions

Is the puddle approximately under the brake master cyl ? Second, treans fluid is generally red and feels oily. Bake fluid is clear, will melt plastic, and act as a paint remover. They are not even similar.

The dripping seem to be on the garage floor in the general shape of the transmission pan. Dripping appears to be red like transmission fluid.

    Re: Brake Actuator? Leak

Could you please explain how the mechanic thinks the Teves brake system is leaking red transmission fluid? Is it possible he over filled the Teves reservoir with transmission fluid?

You may need to look for another mechanic who knows more about the Reatta and the Teves system.

If he put transmission fluid in the Teves system drain it immediately. It could cost you a lot of money if it damages the system and it could really be unsafe. DO NOT drive the car if it has transmission fluid in the brake system.

I just called the mechanic and he said its not leaking at the accumulator but from where the system bolts in. He said it very well may be a gasket leak. ?? I'm also thinking maybe a new mechanic might be the direction to take.

Well one thing is for sure. The Teves brake system will not leak transmission fluid from anywhere... unless someone filled it with transmission fluid.

I would look closely for a leak in the power steering rack and hoses as a source of red fluid if you are certain the transmission or transmission cooling lines are not leaking.

I thought about it Dave but wouldn't the pump be on the opposite side from the brake unit where the mechanic said he thought the fluid was leaking from? I have the cover on my car now so I can't look to see for sure.

Pump is on the other side, but we shouldn't rule anything out. besides when a pump goes you get a big puddle, a rack starts dripping a little bit at a time.

Or power steering system, people often use ATF in the power steering.

    Re: Brake Actuator? Leak

Maybe the brake fluid is dripping on to the transmission, collecting tansmission fluid that is on the pan, case, etc, on its wayward path to the garage floor making it appear red???
