It was bound to happen .....
For anyone interested ... My high-milage 1990 finally decided to complain. Getting on the high-way last Wednesday night, it refused to shift into 4th gear/overdrive, then blew the head gasket & who knows what else. She's getting parked for now & shipped back to NH when I move, then will get fixed. Until then, it's back to the '62 Corvair (probably the next least popular car GM made).
So, whatcha think ... as long as the Reatta needs a new motor & probably transmission, not to mention the computer system it already needed repair work done to, I'm looking into the feasibility of dropping in a turbo or super charged 3800, along with the appropriate transmission & computer upgrades ... will see what it'll all cost ...
~Brenda
------------------
http://members.aol.com/gohighr/reatta.html

Re: It was bound to happen .....
Glad to see someone else has Corvairs; looks like we can start our own orphan car show. While the Corvair isn't in the same league as the Reatta, its a well engineered and good looking car.
BTW, TNN will feature the Corvair on this weekends segment of 'Car and Driver'.

Re: It was bound to happen .....
Why not corvette it. Have it towed into the shop front wheel drive and drive it out rear wheel drive. Maybe a 350 w/ a 350 turbo tranny. possibly a Ford 9 inch rear axle. If your worried about to much HP the 350s can be tuned or detuned and any shop that can fabricate the nessiscary mounts to bolt the engine and tranny in place could stiffen up the frame. The only trouble would be the BCM. Got to be some why to trick it into thinking the stock ecu is still there to get the RPM and MPH etc. Well I think I've rambled long enough

Matt Wolfe
----------
If your not living on the edge your taking up too much space.
[This message has been edited by Mawolfe (edited 07-19-2000).]
[This message has been edited by Mawolfe (edited 07-19-2000).]

Re: It was bound to happen .....
This is just my opinon, (Which I assume is what you are asking for) but in what you would spend to do what is mentioned above, you could buy a damn good Reatta.
If I were you, I'd part out my old one for what it's worth. Being a Reatta owner, you must realize that the most sought after part of these cars are the parts themselves!
If you don't belive me, just check out some of the postings on this page. Time and time again you see people begging for keyless remotes, interior door panels, wheel covers (which I am in a need of myself) and other parts that you either A.) Can no longer get. or B.) Pay through the nose for from a dealer.
Take your old car and sell it piece by piece. Pocket the money and buy what we all wish we had. A Reatta purchased new and kept in mint conditon by the origianl owner. One with all the service records, that has been garaged and treated like a baby.
If you want performance and you love Buicks, get a used Grand National. The 3800 is a typical GM engine and they've made "Bizillions" of them. If GM wanted a "Turbo" or "Supercharged" version of the Reatta, belive me they had the money and technology to do. they did'nt for a reason.
Remember, Just my opinion.
