90 Vert check digit

Hello all you nice people, <BR> I'm talking to a dealer in Texas about buying a 90 "Vert". I have the VIN but when I tried to check the history on the internet it tells me I have the wrong "check digit" Which digit is that. If anyone knows I would appreciate info, I don't want to buy a car with an improper VIN, They might want to put me in jail for car theft. <BR> Thanks<BR> Charlie B.

Be careful you don't interpret the digits incorrectly. I for 1, O for 0, B for 8... etc.

Charlie, sahein brings up a good point. If you look at this page <A HREF="http://www.reatta.net/database/020530_reatta_data.prn" TARGET=_blank>here</A> which has the VIN # for the Reatta database I think you can see what the pattern of the VIN's are. If the dealer has just miss-read<BR>a digit you may be able to figure it out.<P><BR>First two listed on the database are:<BR>1G4EC13C4LB900008 <BR>1G4EC33C0LB900017 <P>All listed seem to have the pattern: 1G4EC?3C?LB??????<BR>First ? is 1 or 3 .<BR>Second ? is a number or X.<P>Last six digits are a number between 900000 and 908515 .<P>Good Luck.

Dick, Thank you for the reply,You helped a lot, i got the VIN right finally , the dlr just jumbled up a couple of the numbers. The auto check came back clean so I bought it. <BR>Still want to register with BCA and Reatta but have difficulty with the computerese language. Is tha a photo of me or my car they want?
