STRAIGHT 8 OIL FILTER QUESTION

Hi, Gang. I'd like help from someone with a factory-installed oil filter on their 1939 to 1947 Buick. I'm trying to find out if the oil inlet line from the bottom of the engine block goes to the fitting on the SIDE of the oil filter, or if it goes into the fitting on the bottom of the filter. I'm pretty certain the feed (or inlet) line goes into the side of the filter. But, I'd sure appreciate someone checking for certain. Thanks for the help. John in Wisconsin

Re: STRAIGHT 8 OIL FILTER QUESTION

I looked at my 47 and the inlet goes into the side.

Re: STRAIGHT 8 OIL FILTER QUESTION

The inlet should go into the side because that way the larger filtering area of the oil filter is exposed to the incoming oil. The outer circumference of the oil filter and the height give a larger surface area than the inner circumference and height which the oil passes through before going out of the filter, exiting at the bottom of the case, and returning to the engine pan.
