Rust at base of rear window (71 and 72 LeSabre)

Looking for a nice fix of the rusting at the base of the rear windows on 71 and 72 Buick LeSabres. Goes right along the chrome. May just pull the panel and weld in sheet metal...as it is pretty flat and square....but that means pulling the glass and all!
Thanks much

That is your only real solution.
If you have doubts about pulling the window, have a glass shop do it for you.
Welding in new metal is the only worthwhile fix.

------------------
to Chicken 4 # 2014 I had this problem with my 1973 Regal .Remove the crome and park the car in the sun ,use a sharp narow puttey knife on the inside of the glass around the edge to loussen the glass ,poush out gently on the glass .There will be two small blocks on the bottem of the glass used as spacers dont lose them !.Clean frame and cut out rust ,weld in new metal and seal frame with fiberglass resen sand prime and paint.Hope this helps .Mike Collier# 5190

I had the same problem on a 73 Caprice. I took it to the glass shop, had him pull the window and hold it for me, took the car to the body shop and had the rust cut out or sand blasted which ever was apropriate and finished with light bondo and after it was painted, I took it back to the glass shop and had him install the window. It worked nice. Just remember, there is no guarantee that the window will not break when it is removed regardless of who pulls it out.
