    Re: Question for Dave Corbin

    Dear Stuart:
The engine number you give can be decoded 2 different ways. The first and most likely is 5,455,697-5 which is a 1949 Super built in June 1949.
The second is 5-4,556,975 which is also an engine for a Super but built in about Jan. 1942. You can easily figure out which it is by looking at the sides of the block near the front for the 4 bolt holes for the engine mounting supports on a 1949. If they're there, it's a 1949. If not, a 1942.
    Regards, Dave Corbin
