News Flash-John M. O'Quinn Dies

My fellow Buick lovers I must report that the famous attorney of Houston, Texas, Mr. John M. O'Quinn died today in Houston in a car crash. Mr. O'Quinn was an avid car collector owning 1,000 collector cars. Among them is the Motorama 1954 Buick Landau. What will be its fate? Charles D. Barnette

Charles, this is a sad reminder of how quickly circumstances can change.

Please keep us posted as you learn more regarding the disposition of the auto collection. I'm confident that several of us will be most interested to learn the next chapter in the Landau's history. Is the individual whose father "saved" the Buick Landau aware of these events?

Are you aware of additional Buicks in the massive auto collection?

Thanks Brian. I have sent now an email to Robert Blair informing him of the tragedy. I am not aware of any other Buicks in the O'Quinn collection. Charles

He has lots of Buicks in his collection. I was lucky enough to be able to see the entire collection on a warehouse one evening.
He has cars from every era and type including a hot rod 1950 chopped estate wagon with a blower sticking out the hood. He has numerous Duesenburgs and Auburns along with a wonderful V 16 Caddy. He has some nice Pre war Buicks and a great looking 1959 Wagon and 2 door hardtop.
Other cars of interest were Pope Johns XIII personal little Italinan car and Jackie Kennedy's Lincoln Limo along with an Amphicar.
There was talk of him opening a museum but most of them just sat in a non de script warehouse in Houston. He did drive some fairly regularly.
He made his fortune as a personal injury lawyer and is famous for his tobacco and breast implant judgments.

Very sad reminder indeed. Life is short, need to put as many miles on our Buicks that we can. And all the better if you have a beautiful wife ridin along with.

I do recall John winning a GM's Best Award or something similar at Amelia a few years back with a 38 Buick Opera Brougham or ??? He only owned the classiest of cars.

I'm sure Barret-Jackson will send flowers.

So, the real question now becomes, how many of the cars does Classy Classic Car in Houston own? They are excluded from the will, as a separate entity.

Otherwise, the will states that they go to the Foundation, and it will be interesting to see how the Foundation ends up handling hundreds of cars.
