Re: I'll join in now

Pat, I think that you not only ran into some shady characters, but morons also! One of the keys is to know when to quit! I had a guy scam me once, to make a long story short it was similar to the "pigeon drop scheme", I had repaired his car and he scammed me on the $1600.00 payment. I went to his home and took a picture of his car, and hung it in my office, right on the wall behind where a customer would sit. I would then look up at that photo and be able to say "No" to people very easy. I think if you are going into a dealership or any sales situation as in dentist, insurance, home painting, even someone cleaning your drain ( we all know how hard it is to say "NO" when they have came to your home and are standing in your bathroom telling you how much it cost), LEARN TO SAY NO! That dang car will be there tomorrow! WALK!. When it comes to the add ons just say "NO", until you think about it. I got sick of hearing the guy at the tire store asking me if I want the "life time flat repair service" at about $10.00 per tire. The last set of tires I bought (about a month ago) instead of arguing with him having him tell me how ignorant I am for not buying it, I looked him in the eyes with a sort of "crazy look" and said "I'm a gambler, I like taking chances" while motioning with my hand I was throwing dice.It was a crack up, he just dropped the subject. My Dad taught me another, while buying me a T.V. for a wedding gift when I was 20 yrs old. (and knew nothing about life) After we listened to all the features of this fine T.V. and agreeing to buy it, we sat down with the guy to fill out the order. When he got to the "extended warranty" My Pop giving this shocked look on his face said "Wait a minute, you said this was a good set!, now your telling me I need protection against it braking?" That was the end of that, no reason to fight. I wouldn't dream of staying till midnight to buy a car. That goes back to what I said earlier....people love the battle with buying a new car! That proves it! I would look at my watch and say "well it's almost dinner time, see you tomorrow" then ask "when is a good time". PERIOD!. I don't get the pressure thing, your buying a car for goodness sake, not a life boat on a sinking ship! That same damn car is at every dealer across the nation! What would possess you to give permission to them to treat you like that? The mistake people make is, you reverse the rolls. You become the ass kisser and you give the salesman the power, YOU have the POWER! But you give them permission to take it. It isn't a battle field, I'm just talking about basic human interaction. Just learn to say "no", it really isn't that hard.
------------------
buickfam@aol.com
Life long Buick Fan.
1965 Skylark H/T
1965 Gran Sport Convertible
1948 Chevy Pickup with 401 Buick.

Re: I'll join in now

In my defense, I would say I made some errors. However, as I was winning in the negotiations, I stayed. Plus they had the car closest to what I wanted, while no one else did. I (we) were there for four hours and the only reason why we stayed that long was a new finance manager tried to work 3 deals at once and didn't get ours done at all. That screw up took 1.5 hours to correct. During that time they left us alone so we didn't mind. What can I say, when you are winning it's hard to walk away. And yes, it was fun.
------------------

70 Skylark W.I.P.
69 Skylark W.I.P.
