HORN REPAIR????

Does anyone know if HORNS can be repaired/rejuvinatedf? In the lengthy process of restoring my 1959 Electra, the original working horns ended up missing and I purchased used replacements (hi note and low note). However, one doesn't blow at all and the other does not blow up to normal volume. The horn that doesn't blow at all does make a slight click sound when powered.

Is there any fix to these? There appears to be an adjustment screw on one side of the horn. Does anyone know what the function of this screw is? For example, is it to adjust loudness or is it to adjust tone?

Re: HORN REPAIR????

The screws are to adjust current draw. High and low note both should be betwwen 4.5 and 5.5 amperes @ 12.0 Volts.(These are the specs for my '65, take your chances applying them to your model)Increasing draw will increase volume...up to a point, excessive current will make them sputter, and stick..
On your horns, where they are old and been sitting, a couple good medium taps of a hammer and beyond that some WD40 and a little "shakin'" may be in order, especially where they're both not working. Have Fun! Steve

Re: HORN REPAIR????

If the horns are bolted together you may be able to take them apart and clean the contact with a point file or the like and then reasseble and adjust the screw for the proper operation. Some horns look like they are riveted together like the Sparton but you can pop the back off which will revele the nuts holding them together just mark across the housing before disassembling it.
