Headlight buckets
I've posted this on the pre-war forum also. I'm restoring a 1937 Special Model 44. The headlight buckets are rusted. There is a trim strip on the outside of the bucket that doesn't show any obvious means of attachment. Can anyone enlighten me as to how this is removed?
Thanks

Re: Headlight buckets
Greetings,
The trim on the exterior of the headlight buckets is stainless steel, and is formed over a ridge on the bucket. There are no fasteners, per se. It appears that the stainless was rolled into a "U" shape, then pressed over the ridge formed by the actual sheet metal of the bucket body.
I found these to be extremely difficult and time consuming to remove without damaging them. I did it using a pair of small awl type tools. Getting them back onto the buckets was equally difficult, and one is still not fitting correctly.
Although counter-intuitive, I would strongly suggest that these not be removed if possible. I suggest polishing them in place, on the buckets, before you paint, then mask them off during the painting process.
