Re: bad starts, voltage too low???

Typically a clicking voltage regulator is the sign the battery is weak or almost dead. Check for the proper size of all cables, good and clean connections and most of all do a cell check on your battery. All the cells should read very close to each other. If one or two are somewhat lower the battery is shot. I believe a fully charged battery should read no lower then 12 volts when standing or around 13.5 when the generator is charging it. Check your manual. Adjust the voltage regulator if necessary.
I don't know about anyone else but the reproduction old style batterys only seem to last 3 to 4 years.

bad starts, voltage too low???

I seem to have two electrical problems at the same time with my 65 Sportwagon (300 4b).
While cranking, the voltage at the (HEI) ignition drops to 10 volts, and only after a while the motor will run.The starter seems to take away a lot, maybe it is on its last legs. My question: is it normal that it will not startup with 10 volts??
Next problem: a clicking voltage regulator, and you see the dash lights flicker. Where should I search for faults?? Generator and voltage regulator are both new out of the box. Thanks for reading, Arthur
