Adding audio to a classic

Just to let everyone know who has thought about this before...and those of you who may never had...

I have an AM/FM radio installed in my Electra. I've always wanted to be able to play my own music from sources such as a CD/Tape/etc while I'm driving around.

About a year ago they came out with a small portable FM broadcast type component that plugs into a portable device such as a MP3 player, walkman, cd player, etc...basically anything with the small type ear phone jack. This device will then broadcast your audio source onto an FM channel somewhere around 88 on the FM dial. I bought one of these devices the past month and finally got around to a test drive in my Electra with this and my MP3 player.

It worked great! I was able to listen to my own music on the lower FM channel. It was of course not CD quality but it allows me to keep a factory radio setup *and* play my own music! Great for short trips and cruises...

My setup was a small MP3 player and a "iRock!" broadcast piece. The later was less than 20 dollars at an electronics store. They had several other brands too which should work the same. Mine runs on two AAA batteries. I just turned on the unit and MP3 player and placed them on the dash while I was driving around. When I stopped they were small enough to go into either my pocket or the glove box.

Just thought some of you may have either seen these before and were unsure of them or didn't even know they existed. For some reason they never got alot of press when they came out. It is a good option for getting your own musical tastes satisfied in your Buick without making any modifications from stock!

Here are some quick pictures to show the simple setup and the size. Excuse the fuzzy photo's :-)

Re: Adding audio to a classic

That looks like something I would be interested in. My Buick comes with a factory stereo cassette deck and since most of my music is on tape Im pretty well covered there. My Dodge however is a different story, it has a factory in dash AM radio , I have also installed a custom autosound hidden stereo system in the car , it is compatible with a CD player but to mount the CD player in the Dodge , I would have to drill holes in the trunk. I dont want to do that , this may be a great alternative. Thanks for the heads up .
