Working on a brass era is a whole new ball game for me so please excuse me if I am the 1,000th person to ask these questions.
Some of the wood (wheels, floor boards, etc.) is new replacement. What is the recommendation for sealing the wood prior to painting? I am considering using enamel because of its better pliability vs. lacquer. Any recommendations for primer and paint choice and application?
Thanks in advance for any help.

While the original restorer of this car (1977) generously supplied me with some photos, I really need more detail photos, measurements and chassis details to assist me with my 1902 Gasmobile Stanhope. (Same car)
Did anyone out there attend the 1997 auction and possibly recall anything about the sale (purchaser) of this car? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

hello, i believe the 1927 i inquired about earlier may have been sold, per seller....=( unfortunate for me!

anyhow, i've now found another of interest advertised as a 1933 Chevrolet Master Eagle (picture is attached). but, this time, i FIRST asked for the ID numbers, which are as follows (cut/paste from Sellers response):

VIN # is 358382,
Body # is 0-5447,
Trim # is 25,
Paint # is 132 and
Job # is 33-559.

from these ID's/Numbers, can anyone decipher these numbers to explain their meanings/representations (presuming sellers accuracy of them)

says he has never checked their meaning tho, but as a ovice, believes the car to be an original, down to the interior and engine!

once again, any guidance/input would be appreciated.

thanks for your time/efforts....maybe i can manage to make this deal work =)

best wishes and happy holidays (super fast approaching)

Tidewater Region and the AACA in general lost a valued and dear freind tonight - Merritt Horne was one of the first members of TRAACA when it was chartered in 1955, and remained an active and enthusiastic ambassador for our hobby right up to the end. Visitors to our region's national events may remember him as the cheerful greeter with a straw hat and candy-striped sportscoat. He was a regular attendee at events all around Virginia, usually driving there in the 1940 Packard 160 sedan that was his pride and joy for 40 years. Our members will miss his warm smile, quick wit, and gentle humor, especially the silly stories that always began with the introduction "Picture this..."

I'm sure all who read the story in the last issue of Antique Automobile of the man and his daughter killed while driving their Model A pickup share...

I'm sure all who read the story in the last issue of Antique Automobile of the man and his daughter killed while driving their Model A pickup share my sadness regarding this tragedy. If the story is accurate, they were driving on an interstate highway and were rear-ended at high speed, even though they had a slow moving vehicle sign on the back of the truck. They didn't have a chance.

It got me to thinking about basic rules of thumb for driving our cars safely. For example, my '57 T-Bird is quite capable of keeping up with modern traffic, but the problem is when I have to stop. The original brakes will stop the car, but not as well as a modern Honda, Toyota, etc.. Therefore, I always try to leave plenty of room between myself and the car in front.

Anyway, what in your opinion should the cutoff be for driving on the typical crowded interstate highway such as I-95 between New York and Miami? I'll start the discussion with the opinion that driving on any road where the average speed is 75 MPH (not the posted speed) or higher should be left to the newer cars. Probably anything from the mid-1960's and newer, especially ones that have disk brakes. Older cars should definitely stick to the less heavily traveled roads.

I understand that every situation is different and I am interested to see other opinions. My hope is that we never see another article like the one mentioned above in our club magazine.

I am considering the purchase of new running board rubber for my 1939 Buick Model 48, 2-door. I can purchase it from Bob's Automobilia . I have two questions:

1. Have you purchased runningboard matting from Bob's, and if so, what was your reaction to the quality of the product? Is the product true to the original? Is the pattern the same and is it formed to original specs?

2. What is the best way to remove the old matting and what are the critical steps to consider when installing the new rubber?

Thanks for your help.

I have one here that a guy gave me (yes for free) with a title. One of my buddy's are buggin me to sell it to him, but I don't know what to charge.
Here's a list of what I have.

OK the deal is done. I have seen and purchased my old Jetfire back!! Should have it in the driveway next Sunday. The car is much worse than I thought. The garage roof had a 12" hole over the windshield. All the die cast trim needs to be replaced. Interior better than expected. All Jetfire parts under the hood in place. Engine turned over by hand. No keys or brakes!! I will attach a few photos.

Very close to the "shouldn't have sold" thread but here's one of mine.
I really wanted a 59 Plymouth from the mid-80s on so I looked at many, many cars.
You car guys know the drill (nothing new here) but one of cars I looked at was a really solid 61 Chrysler 300 G.
It was a nice car, great interior, looked like a very dry body, complete and stock-the guy wanted 4 K for this car in 1987.I took it for a drive and it ran like a Swiss watch except for the idle-the cross ram 2-4s just didn't want to run when the car was sitting at a light.
I knew the car worth about 7 K at the time but I turned this baby down because of the idle and the fact that it wasn't a 59 Plymouth.
Needless to say the car would have been an easy trade for a full-load Sport Fury in equal or better shape (possibly even a convertible).
That would have been logical so instead I bought a 59 Plymouth for 3 grand that was a basket case and cost me 7 times what the G sold for to restore.
It was a painful learning curve but I still have the 59 and that was the mission-I just did it the hard way.And no,there are no regrets because I know every nut and bolt in this car was looked at and who knows?Maybe that G was a bondo bucket under the skin-that helps me sleep at night.

What was your first collector car that was NOT your daily driver, but bought purely for hobby fun and what year did you buy it in if you can remember that far back.

Mine was a 1951 Hudson Hornet 4dr bought around 1967, so that means the car was only 16 years old. By todays standards not eligible for collector plates, or in those days any AACA show. but I knew it was special, and joined the HET Club right away thanks to a guy in Tallmadge Ohio who was a big Hudson collector. That was the year I attended my first Hershey. To this day those Hudson's and Hershey are still special to me. But in comparison my antique car is a lot older. Uh oh....so am I.

hi, a new/novice to the hobby...i hope to acquire a few good leads here.

i have stumbled upon a vehicle i would like to purchase, which appears to be in original condition - from my hours of research this morning, it appears to be a:

1927 Chevrolet Landau 4 Door Sedan (per pics/research/comparisons)

seller is asking $7000, while thats not too much of my concern (although i feel its several thousand high as its NOT immaculate by any means), my immediate questions/concerns are:

- how can i isolate the EXACT make and model?
since the owner doesnt know this information as no title is available from what she says, it was inheritated 15yrs ago and nothings been done

- where can i get stats on this vehicle?
potential value, model information, details, books, charts, diagrams, production information, etc.

- is their an existing aftermarket for this vehicle, specifically the body/mechanical/electrical parts i am sure it will need?
if so, recommendations would be fantastic

- any suggestions on how to locate service providers, shops, mechanics, etc. on this particular vehicle?

thanks for your feedback and i appreciate any input received!
