Good Evening,
I just received a new clutch disk for my 37 and was wondering if there are different disks for the same car. The size is 10". The original (which I still have) has a center section (slides over the shaft on the trans) that sticks out from either side of the disk about 3/4". The new one only sticks out on one side, and is flush to the disk on the other. The six springs are configured differently as well (not as tight to the center as the old disk). Not sure if they sent me a disk for a later model or if they are universal. It will fit the trans shaft. Thanks.

Hello all, I recently talked to a company about helping me with the bodywork and painting of my 1926 dodge coupe. I am really good mechanically, but have not done much body work. There are a few 2-3" tears that need to be welded and a few dents that need to be taken out. I was told to paint the truck to show quality was $25,000 by itself. What do you guys think? I have never done this before, but to me this sounds high.

Hey fellow DBers,
My upholsterer thinks that my 24 touring had side kick panels at the feet of the driver and passenger. He says there are clips present that suggest this . My car didn't have the panels when I got it? But, while dismantling the car, I found some ancient remnants of welting tucked into the body's framework around the area he's talking about. Also he believes there should be welting around the back of the seats and side panels where they meet up to the body. Again mine did not have it. The car was freshened up with new upholstery in the late forties so this stuff could have been left off then. Can any one help solve this mystery and tell me what's correct? Thanks for the help.

Hi all,
<o></o>
I’m new to the forum. Last summer I bought my ’26 DB Screen-side off a car lot here in South Central Oregon. I plan to drive it on and about my hay farm and to the rural villages for fun and advertising of “old time” hay.

I really appreciate the great questions, answers and suggestions on the DB forum. I’ve read everyone’s from the beginning to current with the exception of much of the “new” stuff, 1930 and later. My biggest challenge is the missing left side (four hinges) door… I may have to make my own. I posted a want-ad on the DBC classified, saying I thought ’24- ‘28 maybe even GB of same vintage might work, based on the pictures. I’ve one more project to clear from the shop, and then the Screen-side can go in. Anyone seen a spare door?

I seem to have the older style gas tank, fine thread neck, but no cap. A pop can fits good enough to keep big birds and rocks out. The fuel neck and gauge are positioned so close to the bottom of the truck bed that I can barely access them. X-ray vision or a shrunken head would be helpful here… or was there an access door in the bed, or different neck and gauge locations on the original tank? Also, I have cast steel/iron hinge eyes near the gas tank, presumably for the under bed spare tire rack, but no rack. I’d like to see what this rack is supposed to look like. Rack picture anyone?

Brake rods are backwards, switched lever to band and foot to shoes. Engine turns and has compression; said to have been driven into shop a few years back.

Tires are half composted and wood spokes look really dry and OLD, although all but one are too hard to sink a thumbtack into it. I have a set of serviceable 21” wire A Ford wheels and could turn out some adapters and hub caps… I haven’t asked anyone about wood spokes except a fellow DB’er, who made his own. I plan to occasionally drive at high speeds, 50mph! Won’t do that on old wood, maybe not new wood either?… Hickory? What do you think? Do I dare use wood at these speeds?

I'm looking into trading for a 1929 Dodge Brothers 5 window coupe and would appreciate (any) information on the estimated value and/or production numbers.

I have no idea what model it is, but I'm trying to find out.

VERY LITTLE Rust
The body is covered with surface rust and there are some holes in the bottom of the door panels and rear panel on the passenger side. It will take some work to get it looking show quality but everything is there. It has the original straight six with a three speed on the floor with the original running gear.
Very complete - never restored.

From the pictures, it (looks like) a 2 seater...but I'll refer to the experts on that.

Oil Leakage - Crankcase Breather

Well folks, not without several million small dramas, my 1925 roadster hit the road today. However, a larger drama has shown up. It is blowing oil out the crankcase breather and making a most unacceptable mess on every surface visited!

My first thought was blowby, but there is no blue exhast smoke and the rings are relatively new. In fact the problem looks like one of splash as the oil is deposited in lumps rather than as a mist.

I am sure there was no baffle in the breather. My second thought was to fit something lke a stainless steel scourer in the breather to catch the oil.

The third thought was that was that there is something fundamentally wrong - is there too much oil presure (very heathy at no less than 3 psi) or are the rod dippers going too far into the troughs - replacement pan of unknown origin and the gasket is relatively thin modern bonded cork.

Help - before the EPA get me.

I've been using Shell 1500w gear oil from RSC for a few months now. The oil viscosity works nicely for slowing the gears during shifting.

I noticed that as I drive about 5 miles or further, the trans starts to warm up and shifting gets tougher without grinding the gears.

When I look into the gear box after a run I see the oil is frothy. It takes hours to settle the air bubbles back out of the oil.

I'm wondering if other DB's experience the same oil foaming, or is this an effect of the oil I'm using?

When removing the oil pan on our '24 Dodge sedan for cleaning and gasket replacement, we removed the oil pump to clean it and to ease reinstalling the pan.

The pump impeller has 2 vanes with a small spring between them to provide outward pressure. However, our pump was either missing the spring or we inadvertently lost it during disassembly! Is it possible for the pump to work properly without the spring, maybe just from centrifugal force?

I've been unable to find a replacement but I have found that the spring from a ball-point pen fits perfectly when cut to length. Any reason this wouldn't work as a replacement?

I'm not sure how much spring tension is "correct" but it would seem that the least amount necessary to seat the vanes against the impeller wall would be about right. Any suggestions?

TIA,
Gordon Watkins

Mornin folks.
I have just purchased a 1917 DB Roadster on an impulse. I have some oter old cars but was struck by the age and condition of this old desert find.

I got it started and it runs good but I'm missing some parts. I assume the old car is worth fixing.
Can anyone point me to a parts supplier.

First thing I really need is a wheel and tires. It presently has 5.25 / 5.50 x 18 wheels, 6 hole. I am missing 1 wheel.

what would be a reasonable price to pay for one of these in restoreable condition?

How do you post pics here?

Thanks to all

I just finished rebuilding and installing a Stromberg OD-1 carburetor on my 25 DB. The carb works great, but the economizer valve adjustment has me puzzled.

There is plenty of literature that describes how to adjust the OD-1, but none describe how to adjust the economizer valve. All I find is that the valve "was adjusted at the factory and should not require further adjustment".

I'm sure that even Stromberg didn't expect the carb to survive 85 years and a multitude of tinkerers along the way.

Does someone have experience with the OD-1 carb and the economizer valve adjustment?

I'm helping a friend put his 38 Plymouth pickup engine back together after 7 years apart. When i stick my finger in the spot where the fuel pump installs all i feel is a hole. Should there be a shaft or rod or something to actuate the fuel pump ? Can it fall inside the crankcase? These engines look really simple to work on but if there is something else i should be careful of please let me know, i don't believe he touched the valve adjusters at all. The head was removed to clean up two cylinders which had rusted up a little.

These cars were only built about one year. the 25 I have is an original, runs great, looks good, but needs paint top and redo interior. the interior is complete, but is old. Doors are solid and don't sag and close good, still has old glass in all windows. Now the secret about this DB, lift the drivers seat and floor carpet under seat. Here you will find a secret compartment under the floor, think of the beverage that was transported in this compartment during the 30's. I am considering selling this unusual car if there is an interest

Hello,
I am from Romania, I like old cars especialy american old cars, I just bought a 1937 Dodge, not in very good shape but it's OK, here in Romania is hard to find old cars in good shape because we had 45 years of communism. Between 1930-1941 Romania was growing and the people started having money and they bought a lot of cars especilly american: Buick, Dodge, Plymouth, Ford (even had a factory in Romania)but after the ww2 Communism took over Romania and all the non comunist were taken to jail and had their proprieties confiscated. So they could not buy new cars, only communist cars but not very easy, so the rest of the population who had pre ww2 cars had to keep them, so these cars had to work and here comes the ugly part, all of the cars after years and years had thei engine removed and they put russian engines, and other modifications. For example my car has a gaz 21 engine and other gaz parts, this car runned until the late 1980's. So no more talking here are the pictures with the car.

I also want your help, because here in romania i can't find all the pieses, I am interested in finding an engine because here is hard, I saw a lot of pieces on ebay, and I will start buying. Please post pictures with all the pieces. I want to restor the car to it's former glory. Also the car has the lights and crom pieces.
An other interesting thing it's that the car is a dodge 1937 and has Plymouth emblems, someone told me that this was common in the period in Europe, dodge sold as plymouth and other.
Should the bolts just be snugged up well or is there a recommended torque? My inclination is to tighten them in an alternating pattern, from side to side diagonally. Any suggestions?

Please, can anyone help me with a fuel tap for my 1925 series. Like the fool I am, I cross-threaded the outlet when chasing a leak. The leak is now more like a flood!

The tap I need screws under the vacuum pump with a 1/8" NPT thread (tapered). The outlet is 7/16" NF (parallel). It is turned with a clock key type handle.

Now I am held up getting the car registered after a 30-year restoration - how unfortunate (or words to that effect).:(

I can offer a huge reward (relatively speaking) for the right item.

Thanks
