I have replaced the rear seal on the overdrive without removing the transmission from the car. Now I need to put everything back together when the gaskets arrive. My question now is what grease should be used- the service manual says "cylinder oil soda soap grease". I can find reference to the various compositions of grease on the internet, but it doesn't help with the specific product to use and the U joint needs to have grease that will flow into the bearings readily. What should be used?

"Parts for sale; My health forces me to liquidate my many '36 to '48 Lincoln Zephyr parts I have for sale. The more you buy, the cheaper they become, Great opportunity for a LZ vendor to increase his stock with some great items, at minimum cost, sorry no transmission gears or brakes, write for list, nice restored pair of '38-'39 tail lights, extra perfect newly chromed rims.

Hello,
Just wanted to double check some colors and finishes under the hood.
Transmission - Green - same as engine?
oil pan - Black?
cooling fan - Black or silver?
wire looms - black?
Would black accessories be gloss or satin?
What is the correct finish for the voltage regulator and od relay cover?
Where is the body color terminated on the firewall?
Are the inner fenders (louvered) painted body color?
I have heard there is an authenticity manual for these cars? How thorough is it and where can I get one? I am a new member of the LZOC.
Many thanks,
Dennis

I got to spend some time with the Connie today. I removed the intake manifold and all those items that you have to remove before getting to the bolts. Now I want to remove the heads to clean them inside and outside. I also want to be sure that the new style head gaskets are on it. It seems like Superman was hired to tighten the head nuts down. Does anyone have any tips on how to get these loose without busting the studs? I wired brushed all of the paint and rust off of the nuts and applied plenty of penetrating oil before departing tonight. My back was starting to hurt from pulling on the breaker bar and I ran out of nice Anglo-Saxon four letter words to describe my feelings.

Can these head studs and nuts be replaced with head bolts? And if so who has them?

I will let them soak in the Penetrating oil for a week and bring my torch with me next time.

All tips will be appreciated. Thanks Harry

I am working on a 1947 Continental. The firewall/cowl area is butchered from the transmission cover to the steering column. The pass. side is torched as well , but not as bad. I am assuming this was done at some time to facilitate an engine swap because I have looked at parts cars that were cut the same way.
Does anyone have a section of firewall or a parts car that I could cut and weld back in?
I also need the sheet metal covers that appear to go around the steering shaft. This may help if I am forced to fabricate new panels. Also in need of the
top air dam / shroud at the radiator.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Are the interior quarter interior panels attached here with the arm rest piece attached to that panel and how is it attached.

I received another surprise today when I was looking for the holes for the bolts/clips/brackets (how is it secured?) for the rear trunk chrome that is in front of the spare tire assembly on the 47/48 Continentals. Someone had thoughtfully filled them in with body putty - after they had drilled several smaller holes in the sheet metal below and above the holes for the chrome to provide a better hold for the putty. There are some small rust damage on the seam between the top body part of the trunk and the lower body panel that the spare fits into that the chrome trim is supposed to cover on the 47/48 models - from what I have read the 46 did not have the trim as the seam was covered up with lead. So I will have some minor welding and leading to do on the rear of the car. I have a rear chrome (or is it stainless steel) trim that has a small crease in it. But I can not find anything to indicate how it is secured to the body, and I hope someone on this forum can tell me as well as provide me with a source for the securing items. Thanks Harry

I had a chance to spend some time working on the 48 Connie Coupe today and took the radiator and water pumps out - I wanted to back flush the radiator and send the water pumps off to some one to have modernized with the newer vanes I have read about. Any recommendations are welcomed. I will have to take the radiator to the Auto Hobby shop and use their pressure hot water hose to clean the radiator out. The anti-freeze fluid that was in it did not look bad and there was very little rust or calcium build up evidence anywhere.
It was an interesting experience taking the fan blade unit off as everything is covered in thick dirt. It must take a special 1/2 wrench to get on those 1/2 inch bolt heads under the pulley on the water pumps. I got them out but it took a lot of time and effort. Any tips on doing it easier are also welcomed. Harry

I am doing some work on a 68 and noticed the wipers park to the drivers side and the VIN tag is on the pass side of the dash and the hood safety release are on the pass side also so does anyone know if those were originally designed for the RHD market,I looked at some pics of the lincolns back to 61 when this body style first came out and all of the wipers parked to the drivers side but all the other Ford models the wipers parked to the pass side so that gets me thinking these might have been originally designed for countries with RHD like Austraila. I also looked at at some pics of the 66 galaxie for the Austraila market and the wipers parked on their pass side (our drivers side) so is this a design screw up or could I be right.

Would someone post pictures of early and late starters. I know that there is a difference between certain years. Which will fit in early oil pan vs later oil pan. The difference on the early oil pan is the depth of the colar at the rear of the pan to accept a certain starter. The later oil pan have less depth which can make the difference on which starter you are going to use.

I am about to take a very original 1925/1926 Lincoln 4 passenger coupe out of 12 years of dry storage in preparation for auction. Does anyone know if there is a source of original delivery records going back that far? It is titled as a 1926, but the serial number appears to be from 1925. It appears to be a Brunn designed "Doctor's Coupe"

I just went through all the photographs I have on the 46 to 48 Connie and could not find one that had the engine side of the grill shown. Is there supposed to be a plate between the top of the grill (behind the hod release unit) and the radiator? I have three threaded holes on the rear of the panel that has the hood release latch on it. A photograph would be great! Thanks Harry
