I don't have it home yet but I am the new owner of a 1930 Erskine 4 dr. It is in pretty good shape, the previous owner had kept it running most of it's life, he bought it in 1949. I am planning to get it running and enjoy it a bit before tearing into a restoration. I will need a lot of help when the time comes. I am attaching a picture, any info I can get would be great.

Thanks,

Greetings everybody, i am in the process of tearing down a 27 commander,i did have it running last year, holds coolant as well as a person could expect. i found an owner of a similar car who is also restoring one,he had service, parts and owners manuals which he has copied for me.this isnt my first restoration, but it is the oldest car i have ever worked on.

my questions are:
the window cranks and door handles are all broken, does anybody know of any available? i heard of someone making new castings.
there are a couple centre caps on the wheels that are loose,i will need to fix them or replace them.
found a source for tires and tubes,at least i can make it roll.
it has no oil filter and doesent look like it ever had one, air filter is gone too.
looking forward to the project and also chatting with you all.
your do's and dont's will be greatly appreciated

Hello everyone in Studebaker World. Sorry I have not been on the web site much but there is a very good reason. earlier this year I asked everyone for there help in rebuilding my Town's original fire engine our beloved Stude! Everyone in Studebaker land rallied around me and my project helping me find parts and even giving me parts.

When I last talked to everyone my original block had a crack in it that the welding company found but could not get at to weld. I was able to find another Big Six engine minutes from my house. The engine appeared to be in great shape and I bought it complete for 450 dollars. A great deal by any stretch of the imagination. I returned this block to the same welding company and I was quoted 4000 dollars to weld it and sleeve it.

I returned to my association and told them the cost of fixing the new block. Well needless to say with my fixed budget I was told to vacate rebuilding the original engine.
Too be continued

Winged Wheel radiator cap

I picked up a nice collection of early car parts that were stored for many years. They are mostly NOS items from the mid '30's to the early 60's. Old American cars are not common here in Kenya and so there are few experts to consult. I've found that several of the parts are Studebaker and hope someone can help with a few questions.

These radiator caps are really stylish and in great condition. I'm not planing to sell them, but would like to know a bit more about them since I have them on display in my workshop and they always draw comments. They look identical and have the same part number cast in the bottom (4315-A), but one is painted shiny black and one is chrome with black letters. I think both are New Old Stock and so I believe the black one was painted that way from the factory. I've been told they are for 1935 trucks, but would like to know for sure and to find out why the different colours. Was the black one for a truck and the chrome one for a car?

Also, there is a logo in underside of the radiator cap castings which looks like a circle with a "C" just inside it and then the letters SM inside of the C. I have several other parts with this casting symbol, but don't know for sure if that indicates they are Studebaker, or perhaps this is just a casting company logo. Just wondering if this is a clue as I try to identify the old parts.

Appreciate any help. Tom
