Hi Maxwell owners, I have contacted some of you about Upholstery for a 1917 and have received a lot of information and help, now I am asking anyone with photos of upholstery for an 18 or 19 if you can send me those. Even though our Maxwell is titled as a 17, with all the great input we have been recieving, it is apparent that our car is actually a 1918 or 19. Does anyone know whether or not this model had door pockets. Also does anyone know if there was a serial number on the frame and where it would be located. Thanks.

I do not know how long they were on his car.

I am doing a body off resto on a '65 olds starfire and need some expert advice

1) I am converting the front to disc brakes. I know you can take 68-69(?) disc brakes and install on a '65, but cant remember if I can use the 65 spindles or if I have to use the 68. can someone confirm the year car and parts I need to make this work?.

2) Did Olds make a duel quad or tri power intake that can be placed on a 425? If so, what year.

3) Before I haul the body to the shop, does anyone know of lower rear quarter replacement panles, and trunk floor, or if another GM will substitute? fabing these is a last resort.

4) I need rear exhaust tips to either purchase, or to get measurements to manufacture from SS myself.

Thanks in advance

Am still having the issue that after a few days down, the rear tonneau pins (primarily driver's side) do not want to stay socketed. Even after the top stretches enough to stay, one set of RR tracks results in a pop.

I have swapped the pins side to side and problem stays on driver's side. Have lubed the latch/cables every which way and it is firmly closing but a tight top will still pop.

Is this just to be expected with a cheap top or is it something else ? I have adjusted the pins so far out that the rubber seal barelt touches the tonneau.

Suggestions welcome.

All,

Got back last night to Stuttgart from Ramstein where I had been at a conference. A 2+ hour drive at higher speeds on the autobahn (to avoid getting run over by everything from Beemers to delivery trucks) was a definite strain on the engine. By the time I got back to the garage under my apartment building, the "Check engine light" was on (Codes 44 and 45) and she sounded tired. :(

Beyond dealing with the problems already indicated, I would like to wring more power from the engine. I know some people have gotten some enhancement from the SMEC upgrade but I was wondering if it is really that noticeable.

If the upgrade is not enough, what would be the next step? Is there something else that can be done to the 8v engine to give it more hp without risking a drastically lowered life span (on an engine that may be starting to show its age)?

Thoughts?

I seem to be going through a lot of front hub bearings on my 2000 Park Avenue Ultra. I've also found a lot of other GM owners that use the same...

I seem to be going through a lot of front hub bearings on my 2000 Park Avenue Ultra. I've also found a lot of other GM owners that use the same bearing part number are having to replace these bearings every couple of years.

I also noticed NO ONE sells these hub bearings at the retail level (Auto Zone, O'Reilly, Pep Boys, etc.) with a lifetime warranty any more, which also suggests the manufacturers know they fail a lot. Most companies have dropped their coverage to 1 year, and Auto Zone's economy line of parts now only covers the bearings for 90 days.

All of the hub bearings have the same generic number, 513121, although some stores use their own internal stock numbers. And, these bearings are all made in China. All of the bearings are sealed, can't be taken apart and inspected for wear spots or to see what is causing the bearings to fail. I suspect the seals are the weak spot, because I've noticed the bearings are more likely to fail after we have a lot of rain here in South Texas.

There is at least one company that sells an American-made version of them via mail order with a lifetime warranty, but you have to get their authorization before returning a part, and pay the shipping for a fairly heavy part. Other than that, no one seems to sell a bearing with a warranty longer than one year.

I use a torque wrench set to the correct setting (118 lbs-ft) for the Park Avenue, but the bearings seem to go out about every 1.5-2 years.

My questions are these:

1. Has anyone found a brand or retailer that sells a bearing that lasts longer than the others?
2. Has anyone found any installation proceedure that seems to lengthen the life of the bearings?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Joe

hello, i believe the 1927 i inquired about earlier may have been sold, per seller....=( unfortunate for me!

anyhow, i've now found another of interest advertised as a 1933 Chevrolet Master Eagle (picture is attached). but, this time, i FIRST asked for the ID numbers, which are as follows (cut/paste from Sellers response):

VIN # is 358382,
Body # is 0-5447,
Trim # is 25,
Paint # is 132 and
Job # is 33-559.

from these ID's/Numbers, can anyone decipher these numbers to explain their meanings/representations (presuming sellers accuracy of them)

says he has never checked their meaning tho, but as a ovice, believes the car to be an original, down to the interior and engine!

once again, any guidance/input would be appreciated.

thanks for your time/efforts....maybe i can manage to make this deal work =)

best wishes and happy holidays (super fast approaching)

regards,

Tidewater Region and the AACA in general lost a valued and dear freind tonight - Merritt Horne was one of the first members of TRAACA when it was chartered in 1955, and remained an active and enthusiastic ambassador for our hobby right up to the end. Visitors to our region's national events may remember him as the cheerful greeter with a straw hat and candy-striped sportscoat. He was a regular attendee at events all around Virginia, usually driving there in the 1940 Packard 160 sedan that was his pride and joy for 40 years. Our members will miss his warm smile, quick wit, and gentle humor, especially the silly stories that always began with the introduction "Picture this..."

I have 2 F notes,1 A note (that all look to be original ) & the 4 th horn is a C note that is definatly the right sound with the other 3 horns. Two GM dealers say they should be 2 A and 2 F note horns but are not shure if there is a third note in place of the one A note horns. I pulled horns off a 80's Eldorado at the wreckers today that had 1A,1D,1C ,1F horns.I'am wondering if Riviera assembled a mix of the four notes at their own discretion when the cars came off the line?
